The Rock Reveals Eye-Biting Hobbs & Shaw Deleted Scene That Was Just Too Gruesome

By  |

Hobbs & Shaw has been accused of taking the Fast and Furious franchise too far off the rails with its super powered villain played by Idris Elba. Now, The Rock has shared some more interesting behind-the-scenes intel that details a gruesome deleted scene that was just too disturbing for the MPAA.

Seriously, this sounds like something ripped directly out of Cannibal Ferox, and we’re guessing it happens in the scene where Hobbs unites his brothers for one epic action set piece that finds the warriors unable to use their guns and must resort to more primitive weapons. About this very violent scene that may never see the light of day, Dwayne Johnson says this, almost a little too gleeful about the gory imagery contained within.

“Unfortunately the scene where I bite the bad guy’s eye out and spit it on the dirt didn’t make it. MPAA ratings board forbid us to show it because it was too violent. True story.”

We believe you, Dwayne. That sounds downright brutal in a very visceral way. The movie is going to be violent, for sure. And apparently we haven’t seen anything yet, even if we have watched the handful of Hobbs and Shaw trailers and TV spots that have been released leading up to the August 2nd release date.

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever – and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister – these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

We’re sure to see The Rock take down quite a few bad guys in Hobbs and Shaw but sadly we won’t get to see him bite the eyeball out of any unsuspecting sockets. It’s unclear if this moment from the movie will ever make it back into an extended cut or show up as a deleted scene on the inevitable Blu-ray that will most likely be released sometime around the holidays.

The deleted scene in question might not even make it into an R rated movie. So far, all of the Fast and Furious movies to date have been rated PG-13, and Hobbs and Shaw won’t be the exception to the rule. Universal knows the formula that works, and they’re not going to mess with their blockbuster behemoth, with the series having already brought in $5.1 billion worldwide. You can check out some behind the scenes footage from the fight scene in question at The Rock’s Instagram.
